Gerdau is currently seeking a Quality/Process Engineer (Metallurgy) for its Sayreville, NJ facility.

Basic Function:
The Product Metallurgist I provides technical coordination and support for the Melt Shop and/or Rolling Mill to advance the development and refinement of operating procedures to ensure quality standards. Responsible for providing support in the coordination and evaluation of customer requirements and product specifications in accordance with the capacities and capabilities of the production departments.
The Quality Engineer is primarily responsible for the identification, evaluation, and implementation of product enhancement opportunities. These actions involve the planning, coordination, evaluation and reporting of product trials, and on-site material review at customers' plants.
Responsibilities:
Timely and cost-conscious evaluation of customer requirements.
Providing information and/or undertaking physical inspection of rods to make decisions on material disposition applied to the customer.
Investigation and evaluation of customer complaints, with the responsibility to formulate and implement corrective action procedures.
Involvement in GBS to the extent that it involves the customer technical needs.
Coordinate and organize customer visits to the plant.
Responsible for the identification, implementation and co-ordination with the Melt Shop, Rolling Mills and other departments of process / product development projects designed to improve product quality and yields as well as reduce processing costs.
Investigate proposed product requirements and determine action plans accordingly.
Aid in development of processes and practices necessary to produce grades of steel to comply with industry, customer, sales and operating requirements.
Aid in development and implementation of timely, effective quality reporting systems.
Requirements:
Bachelor Science - Metallurgy, Materials Degree, Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial.
4 - 6 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment with exposure to standardization and production quality.
Ability to apply problem-solving techniques to a wide range of metallurgical process issues.
Experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
Experience in steelmaking or any metal industry (mining, non-ferrous, foundry) is strongly preferred
Experience working with processes, performing experiments, changing process parameters in order to increase productivity, reducing delays/downtime, reducing consumption of raw materials, and reducing cost
Ability to develop and refine new and existing practices from industry or customer specifications by utilizing and enhancing current shop capabilities.
Experience in steel making and casting processes including alloying, refractories, slag and clean steel practices and or rolling is preferred.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001, Six Sigma Processes and or QS9000 / TS16949 quality systems.
Ability to develop and present training and technical presentations.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
