Manufacturing Senior Automation Engineer

DescriptionThis position is responsible for working with the Corporate Operations and Engineering teams.
The primary focus will be ideation, planning, installation, validation, and optimization of newly designed systems that will streamline the packaging process.
Additionally, this position will identify, document, and communicate improvement opportunities across the manufacturing process that may be supported by equipment modification.
This position will play a lead role in identifying and implementing automation, packaging, palletizing, and material handling improvement opportunities which will in turn eliminate non-value-added manufacturing costs.
Essential Duties:
Automation Initiatives Establish technical competence and knowledge of processes and manufacturing equipment, along with associated standards.
Understand product geometry, consistency, and quality issues, which could hinder automation equipment.
Measure and analyze available data for line and infrastructure performance.
Collaborate with the Plant Operations Teams to understand process flow and identify automation improvement opportunities to optimize labor efficiency.
Define automation equipment solutions associated with improvement opportunities, including justification and financial benefit.
Provide overall layout, any utility and infrastructure requirements, and conceptual rendering of automation equipment solutions in support of opportunity evaluation.
Identify equipment specifications and target suppliers, obtain quotes, and determine selection criteria.
Participate in the evaluation and selection of automation equipment solutions to achieve headcount reduction goals.
Prepare Capital Authorization Request (CAR) when required with effective project explanation, justification, project timeline and ROI calculation; Prepare detailed presentation of CAR to management for approval, with corporate engineering, planning and automation teams to develop strategic, detailed deployment plan which includes all the required elements of the IQ/OQ/PQ plan.
Establish project scope, key deliverables, budget, and schedule estimates in preparation for project deployment.
Lead and support the implementation of automation equipment solutions in conjunction with the local plant engineer.
Manage total project cost and schedule to confirmed plan.
Support internal change management processes to ensure that new automation equipment solutions and associated procedural changes are fully adopted within the plant.
Ensure delivery of training for appropriate personnel on new automation equipment solutions.
Work in accordance with all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety and legality, security, and regulatory compliance as applicable.
Ability to travel up to 75%.
(Candidates residing near a major airport who prefer working from a remote location will be considered).
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Comprehensive understanding of automation/packaging solutions, conveyance, material handling, ergonomics, and electrical systems.
Experience in presentation of major projects to management using Power Point or equivalent software.
Knowledge of manufacturing environment including current compliance requirements for safety.
Excellent problem-solving skills in an industrial equipment environment.
Skilled in AutoCAD and Solid Works.
PLC (Programming) & Motion control knowledge.
Hands-on experience with robotics installation and optimization desired.
Required Education and
Experience:
BS Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or a related Engineering field, or equivalent professional experience.
10
years' experience in engineering working on manufacturing equipment and processes.
